Software Development with Linux

Using Wireshark for USB sniffing

SUN, 01 MAR 2009

Wireshark (formerly Ethereal) is a tool well known by those doing network data transfer analysis. In fact, if you're doing any kind of network software development with Linux, you probably know and use this tool. If not, you're missing something and should look at it right now.

But, until I read USB sniffing on Linux on bert's blog , I didn't know that Wireshark could also be used to sniff USB data transfer.

I will have to check if the Wireshark and libpcap version available in Kubuntu support this. It looks that only the most recent version support that feature.

Anyway, having done some USB software development (both kernel driver and application), I can definitely say that I would have like to have that tool at that time.
